The “Before” Photos. Get Ready to Laugh!

As I mentioned yesterday,  our house is in need of some updating.  SERIOUS need.

Not only was the house built in 1962, when fashion taste was questionable, but Nick’s grandma had an affinity for bright colors- none of which that matched, and horrible taste in curtains and bathroom fixtures- all of which are still there.

That’s ok, though, because I have always loved  interior design, and ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been dreaming of decorating my very own house just the way I want it.

This whole time, when I’ve been in and out of the house, I see it the way it will be when it’s done, and I keep forgetting how utterly silly it looks!  Going through these photos to post, I realized just how awful it is, and got a good laugh!

So, I am excited, but I’m not sure how prepared I am for the hard work, late nights and expensiveness that is renovating a home.

Here are some interior photos:  (and note, click on the photos to make them larger)

Kitchen

It’s an L shape, with TONS of storage space.  We are replacing the Fridge, Microwave and   Cooktop asap.  The oven was put in in 2008, so we’re keeping it the way it is.  We’re also redoing the kitchen cabinets right away.  Tile and countertops will have to wait for a while though.

Just after the kitchen, is the Dining Area.  I really like this space.  I have always wanted a dining room.  I also like the rock on the wall, and the wood-burning stove- I think They make it unique.

Then we have the Mudroom.  Its going to be nice to have a whole room to store coats, and all our laundry stuff!

That Paneling has definitely got to go!

The living room is nice and big!  And, in case you were wondering, that IS INDEED aqua blue carpet  🙂

i love that big window!

Then, we have a long dark hallway

three bedrooms, (only two are shown because the other had a burned out lightbulb, and I couldn’t get a shot)

The last renters re-did the hardwood….bad idea.  They did the worst job EVER.  not only is the stain uneven, but its all over the baseboards!  Yuck!  We’re getting a bid on monday 🙂

Here’s the fabulous turquoise master bedroom

And what will be the guest room, in all its pink glory.

Don’t worry, it gets worse.

The Bathroom is just about the worst part of the house.

What was it about the 1960’s that prompted people to use heinous-colored porcelain?

It just makes me laugh.

And its going away soon.

Downstairs, we have another large family room, a small bedroom and a bathroom.

The Rainbow shag carpet is infamous.

When I met Nick, he was living in his grandparent’s basement, and this was my only introduction to this house until just recently.

We kept a square of this carpet to frame- mostly so people believe us,

but yes, its already gone.

And then, on the other half of the basement, we have a ridiculous amount of storage. We’re very excited about this part!

These photos were taken when there was still stuff in the storage room.  I think its a good indicator of just HOW MUCH crap we can fit in there!

So, even though its going to be a ridiculous amount of work, and won’t be complete anytime soon, we love it, its ours, and we are so excited!

Here is a better photo of the view from the back patio  🙂

The Huge Huge Big News

We Have EXCITING News!!!!!

I can’t even believe it……….

But

We are happy to announce that……..

WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!

That’s right!

This is why, for the past 3 months, I have been AWAL on most things in my life.

I graduated college, had to deal with the Christmas season at my job and in my personal life, and went through the ridiculousness that is buying a home.

To make an incredibly long story short,

This home belonged to Nick’s grandparents, and they wanted it to be sold to a grandchild- we jumped on the opportunity, even though we weren’t planning on looking for a house for a while.

It was a good move.  We got a great deal, and will be able to have a home in great condition, on a great piece of property, in a very nice neighborhood.

We truly feel blessed at the fantasticness of it all.

We had a GREAT mortgage broker- and if you need a name, I will HIGHLY recommend him, just let me know.

I only have a couple photos at the moment, but here it is from the front:

and here is the view from the back patio

This is a totally crappy photo, but do you see the lake?  Pretty sweet, huh?

The house is in great condition structurally.

Aesthetically…notsomuch.

That’s ok though,

We’re planning on renovating!  It’s exciting!

I am going to keep posting stuff as we go under the “The Big Renovation” page at the top of the blog ^^^^

and you can see our progress as we move along!

We have a lot of ideas and are really excited to start!

What i’m not so excited about, however, is the packing.

I hate packing.

But, I can’t really complain, because WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!!

Stay tuned for updates and more photos!
