Moving Day!

On the eve of moving day, we were still not packed.  Only about 30% I’d say.

Insert PANIC here.

we worked and worked and worked, and I panicked some more.

At 10:00 PM, this is what our kitchen looked like  (don’t even get me started on the rest of the house)

it wasn’t pretty.

Things ALWAYS take way longer than i think they will.  I learned the hard way here!

By 3:00 AM, this is what it looked like:

much better.

That’s when we gave up and went to bed.  We got up again at 5:30 AM.  we packed, I went and put a final coat on the cabinet doors, and we picked up the moving truck.

Thank Heavens for our brothers, is all I can say!

(I didn’t take too many photos of the moving process, I was a bit busy, but here are a couple:

this is what the strappin’ lads did.

Meanwhile, I stayed at the new house getting ready – and doing more painting.

My Mama helped me line the kitchen shelves

And our dads got to work installing our Fridge, Cooktop and Dishwasher

i think it’s cute how they are so good at working together.  And I’m very grateful!

Nick and his brother, Eric putting together our closet organizer.   Aren’t the floors and walls SO PRETTY????  More on that later.

We put all our boxes downstairs, since there was still construction upstairs.  All the furniture congregated in the living room upstairs awaiting thier final homes.

It was a mess.  Still is, actually.

Yoshi was pretty excited about the new carpet, and he’s settled in great. He loves that the window is just his height.  Window watching is one of his favorite hobbies.

By the end of the day, we were so beat.  2.5 hours sleep, on top of five previous days that were 20+ hours each.  We set up our bed, ran to the inlaw’s to shower, and went nighty night!

PS, don’t you LOVE the walls?!  I sure do. In fact, I can’t get enough!  It will look SO good when the wainscotting is finished, and when its totally decorated  🙂  And, our bed is pretty  🙂

It was bittersweet leaving our old place.  Good, but sad at the same time. We had so many good times there- It’s the house we had when we got married  🙂

Bye Bye house

I don’t think I’ve ever worked so hard to get a bathroom so spotless in my whole life.  You’re welcome, Randy.  🙂

PS, this place is now for sale,  It’s awesome, and I happen to know, the last people who lived in it were totally cool, and left it really clean!

Just a quick sec

I haven’t posted in a while….and its because I promised my next post wouldn’t be about the house………  well, it turns out that that’s ALL we’ve been doing.

Except these things, and so I thought I’d take a quick sec to share them with you.

Firstly, I received a lovely little package in the mail.  This pretty little thing was in it.

I’m really proud of this lil piece of paper!  It took me 5 years to earn it!

Let the search for the perfect frame begin!

I bought this album on Itunes the other day

one of my favorite things about Pandora is that I get exposed to music that I may not otherwise.  This is a fun album- if you like girly rock, that is.  Its kinda like Evanescence meets Tori Amos.  I’m digging it lately.

Also, I’m quite obsessed with this song lately…..  I just watched the video today, and I think its quite funny!

That’s about all I have today.  i’m running on fumes.  Or the fumes of the fumes, more likely.

in the last 2 days, we’ve put in 39 hours of work on the house…..its kinda close to being livable.  Lots of progress has been made, and its looking pretty.

We move in tomorrow.

I’m scared.

Its going to be ugly.

We’re only about 30% packed.

I’ll let you know how it went next week.

Insert some witty name for a post here, because I’m too tired to think of one.

We’ve been working tirelessly on our house. Good things are happening, slow as they may be.

I found out that a mixture of fabric softener and water sprayed on the walls will get wallpaper paste off very quickly  (Hallelujah!)

See the texture on the far right?  All glue.  It was EVERYWHERE and it was thick!

But, thanks to the fabric softener, 7 hours, and my friend Erin for cleanup, it now is ready to be patched!

We also went through EVEN MORE samples for the living room, because I still couldn’t decide:

it looks like Camo!  I did, however FINALLY pick one!  It’s the second from the left  🙂  I can’t wait to get it on the walls!

We started the painting process on the Master Bedroom as well- and in my last post, i had said we were going to do a light gray……well, we changed our minds while in the paint store.  It was a sign.  We ended up picking a much darker color……  and we LOVE it!!!!  I am waiting to reveal it, however  😉

We primed and primed and primed to get the awful aqua covered up, and realized the window looked horrible, so we cased it:

doesn’t it look so much bigger with the white on the walls?

here is the window casing.  I think it looks so good!  We want to do this on all our windows- the best part is, it really wasn’t that expensive!  Plus it was super easy!

We are getting closer on our drywall, and I hope to paint the kitchen, living room and hallway this weekend, plus install baseboards, chair rail, bead board and wainscotting.

We started taking the kitchen cabinet doors off to be painted, and have started the prep.  Only when I got up on a ladder and had my face next to the cabinets, did I realize how beat up they are  😦   The stupid renters that were in the house before we bought it really did a number on a lot of things in the house.  Tonight I’ll be putty-ing as many of those dings as I can.  Here’s an in-process picture:

i’m planning on buying a paint sprayer to do the bulk of the painting in here.  Not gonna lie, i’m pretty excited about it.

This week we also bought our appliances.  We got a great deal on them at RCWilley on MLKJR day.  We have a working dishwasher (although it doesn’t match, but that’s ok for now!) so we bought a fridge, microwave and cooktop (there is also a pretty new wall oven).  I am so excited for them to be delivered next week- they are so pretty!

Right now, we’re just in a mad dash to get all the construction done before we move in in a week and a half!!! eeek!  Plus, we still need to pack!  I am so sick of our house being messy, but I think i’m just going to have to come to terms with it until after we move.  Its not easy for me!  While i’m loving re-doing this house, and am so grateful for it, I’m also kind of sick of the whole deal.  I really just want a night when nothing has to be done where i can go on a date with my husband………..   unfortunately that’s not in the cards for at least a week and a half.  Until then, i’ll be running on fumes.  To bed late and up early.  It’s ok though.

I promise my next post will be about something other than the house!

Wallpaper Paste: My Nemesis.

We’re making some headway on the house!  We’ve done lots of demo.  I don’t really have photos of that process, however because I wasn’t there.  So you get to see it mostly cleaned up.

Remember the long dark hallway?

it is no more!

we tore that wall out so that now, it’s one big space.  I am SO happy we did it! I love how much light is in there now!

I’m also happy that the ugly aqua blue carpet is gone!

We also tore off the awful wallpaper in the mudroom.  This left behind a wall  covered in paste.  50 year old paste.   Being the genius that I am (insert sarcasm here), I decided to use my fantastic clothing steamer to get it off- to save the wall.

Lets just say, this process SUCKS.  Wallpaper glue is nasty, smelly, sticky nasty stuff.  It’s going to take DAYS for me to finish.  Boo.

On that note, have you ever used one of these?

This is a Conair clothing steamer.  Used in place of an iron.  I love mine.  Ever since I worked at a clothes store in the mall, I’ve loved these.  But, just in case you needed to know, they will get wallpaper paste off too.

We also moved a wall in the kitchen, so that we can put a modern fridge there, and a pantry.  More on that later.

I’m having a hard time picking out paint colors.  I never thought it would be so hard!  It’s hard to find just the right color.  I’m glad I bought samples!

I want gray in our bedroom.

I tried Kwal’s “Lace Falls”

but it was too light.  Thinking just a hair darker….like Kwal’s “Silver Lining”

haha, here on the screen, those look the same!  I promise they aren’t  🙂

I want a Tiffany Blue kitchen.  I will not settle for anything less.

First I chose Kwal’s “Pulpit Peak”

but you can’t even tell it’s blue on the wall.  I gave it 3 coats!

So I have settled for Martha Stewart’s “Enamelware” it is the PERFECT Tiffany Blue.  I am very happy with it!

The mudroom color needs to go with the kitchen color because you can see it from the kitchen.  I also wanted something fun- just because it’s the mudroom, and no one cares if its ridiculously bright.  🙂

I’m thinking either Kwal’s “Saladdin”  (seriously, who comes up with these names?)

or “Blue Mayonnaise”

which looks the same as Saladdin above again.  Blast!

or, to be dramatic, “Domination”

I guess we’ll just have to sample all three- after i get the paste goop off the walls that is.

The living area has been the hardest for me to decide thus far.  I want a neutral taupe-ish color.  I can’t seem to find the right one.

I’ve tried 4 different colors in there.  The closest has been Kwal’s “Lorette”

it looks good here, but on the wall, its just a bit too light.  Just not right.

Then, I found a photo on Pinterest that had the PERFECT color!

I’m going to have Kwal match it this week.  Hopefully it will pass the test!  I’m so sick of looking at paint swatches!!!!

we also had the wood floors refinished!  I am so excited about this.  Before, they were done HORRIBLY!!!   Some stain went with the grain, and some stain went against it. Plus, it was a heinous orange color.   I should have taken photos of the horribleness that it was.

But, after today, they will be beautiful.

I’ll post photos when the topcoat dries 🙂

The “Before” Photos. Get Ready to Laugh!

As I mentioned yesterday,  our house is in need of some updating.  SERIOUS need.

Not only was the house built in 1962, when fashion taste was questionable, but Nick’s grandma had an affinity for bright colors- none of which that matched, and horrible taste in curtains and bathroom fixtures- all of which are still there.

That’s ok, though, because I have always loved  interior design, and ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been dreaming of decorating my very own house just the way I want it.

This whole time, when I’ve been in and out of the house, I see it the way it will be when it’s done, and I keep forgetting how utterly silly it looks!  Going through these photos to post, I realized just how awful it is, and got a good laugh!

So, I am excited, but I’m not sure how prepared I am for the hard work, late nights and expensiveness that is renovating a home.

Here are some interior photos:  (and note, click on the photos to make them larger)

It’s an L shape, with TONS of storage space.  We are replacing the Fridge, Microwave and   Cooktop asap.  The oven was put in in 2008, so we’re keeping it the way it is.  We’re also redoing the kitchen cabinets right away.  Tile and countertops will have to wait for a while though.

Just after the kitchen, is the Dining Area.  I really like this space.  I have always wanted a dining room.  I also like the rock on the wall, and the wood-burning stove- I think They make it unique.

Then we have the Mudroom.  Its going to be nice to have a whole room to store coats, and all our laundry stuff!

That Paneling has definitely got to go!

The living room is nice and big!  And, in case you were wondering, that IS INDEED aqua blue carpet  🙂

i love that big window!

Then, we have a long dark hallway

three bedrooms, (only two are shown because the other had a burned out lightbulb, and I couldn’t get a shot)

The last renters re-did the hardwood….bad idea.  They did the worst job EVER.  not only is the stain uneven, but its all over the baseboards!  Yuck!  We’re getting a bid on monday 🙂

Here’s the fabulous turquoise master bedroom

And what will be the guest room, in all its pink glory.

Don’t worry, it gets worse.

The Bathroom is just about the worst part of the house.

What was it about the 1960’s that prompted people to use heinous-colored porcelain?

It just makes me laugh.

And its going away soon.

Downstairs, we have another large family room, a small bedroom and a bathroom.

The Rainbow shag carpet is infamous.

When I met Nick, he was living in his grandparent’s basement, and this was my only introduction to this house until just recently.

We kept a square of this carpet to frame- mostly so people believe us,

but yes, its already gone.

And then, on the other half of the basement, we have a ridiculous amount of storage. We’re very excited about this part!

These photos were taken when there was still stuff in the storage room.  I think its a good indicator of just HOW MUCH crap we can fit in there!

So, even though its going to be a ridiculous amount of work, and won’t be complete anytime soon, we love it, its ours, and we are so excited!

Here is a better photo of the view from the back patio  🙂

The Huge Huge Big News

We Have EXCITING News!!!!!

I can’t even believe it……….

We are happy to announce that……..

That’s right!

This is why, for the past 3 months, I have been AWAL on most things in my life.

I graduated college, had to deal with the Christmas season at my job and in my personal life, and went through the ridiculousness that is buying a home.

To make an incredibly long story short,

This home belonged to Nick’s grandparents, and they wanted it to be sold to a grandchild- we jumped on the opportunity, even though we weren’t planning on looking for a house for a while.

It was a good move.  We got a great deal, and will be able to have a home in great condition, on a great piece of property, in a very nice neighborhood.

We truly feel blessed at the fantasticness of it all.

We had a GREAT mortgage broker- and if you need a name, I will HIGHLY recommend him, just let me know.

I only have a couple photos at the moment, but here it is from the front:

and here is the view from the back patio

This is a totally crappy photo, but do you see the lake?  Pretty sweet, huh?

The house is in great condition structurally.

That’s ok though,

We’re planning on renovating!  It’s exciting!

I am going to keep posting stuff as we go under the “The Big Renovation” page at the top of the blog ^^^^

and you can see our progress as we move along!

We have a lot of ideas and are really excited to start!

What i’m not so excited about, however, is the packing.

I hate packing.

But, I can’t really complain, because WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!!

Stay tuned for updates and more photos!

Oh my word, it’s been forever since I blogged!  I have missed it so!

Lots of things happened!

We Got Married

We Went on a honeymoon

(to see the photos, click on the “Our Wedding” page ^^^^up there^^^^)

And there have also been other things since.

Nick had knee surgery on October 6th.  It went a lot better than we had hoped it would!  He just had some scartissue built up inside, and so the doc scoped them out!  His recovery was really fast, and the poor thing was bored to death until he could go back to work.  (A month after the surgery)

I also got a new job!  Well, a second job, that is.

I am now a professional newborn photographer!  It is so exciting!  I get to go to most of the hospitals along the Wasatch Front, and photograph the lil’ ones when they are just hours old.  I cannot tell you how much fun I am having!  At first, it was kind of scary, like any new job, but I finally feel like I’m getting the hang of it.

The company I’m working for is called Bella Baby Photography.  It’s a pretty sweet gig for part time.  I just love all the little babies and their families that I get to meet!  Meeting new people is one of my favorite things!  Plus, I’m getting great photography experience and lots of baby-lovin’ experience.  Totally awesome.  Although, I did get pooped on the other day…..  🙂

I am also in my last LAST LAST semester at the U!  WOOOO-WOOO!  This has been a long time comin’! Right now, I have 12 credit hours-ish and its killing me!  I have a couple easy classes, and a couple hard classes, but either way, they are all requiring SO MUCH TIME!!!!!  I feel like i can’t even breathe.  I am SO ready to be done!  Two weeks is the end- but in that time, I have to write a 20 page, publishable paper, a 15 page website  (yes, code and all), write a political blog, and do some math quizzes.  NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.  So, if i don’t check back here for a couple weeks, you’ll know why!

That’s all for now,

But……………. we should be able to announce some more big news by the end of December!  exciting news it is!!!!  Stay tuned!
